The Lost Timeline Ch.9

Homura walked home, crying the whole way. "What if he's right...? What if I can't save Kaname?" Homura whispered. "Who are you trying to save and why?" said a voice from behind. Homura turned to see Mami standing there. "I hid outside the apartment building because I wanted to thank you. And then I heard you crying and I figured it was time to come out." Mami smiled. "So, thank you and if you want to talk, I'll listen. Why don't we come back to my apartment, hm?" Homura dried her eyes and walked with Mami. She told her about how she's trying to save Madoka and what Kyubey is trying to do. When they finally got to her apartment, Mami pulled out her Soul Gem and transformed. What is she doing that for? What's going on? Homura turned away from the transformation and saw none other than Kyubey sitting on Mami's table. Homura was terrified and back into a corner. Mami pulled a gun out from under her skirt and pointed it at Homura. "Kyubey says you know too much and that I have to kill you." Mami's face turned into one of the scariest things Homura had ever seen. This is so similar to another time! What is going on!? Tears started to pour down Mami's face. "I'm sorry, Akemi, but I have to kill you." Tears welled up in Homura's eyes too. "T-Tomoe! P-please I beg you! There is someone I have to save! Someone I-I have to protect! C-Can y-you please u-understand!" Mami still had the gun pointed in her face. Homura knew she wouldn't be able to transform fast enough before she pulled the trigger, so she merely stood, frozen with fear. I'm going...to die here...Kaname...I'm sorry...

Suddenly, Mami collapsed to ground. "Aaaaahhh!" she groaned with pain. At first, Homura thought it was because of her wound from earlier. Then, she took a look at her Soul Gem. It was almost completely black. "Tomoe..." Homura got on her knees and held Mami in her hands. The look on Mami's face said that she realized these were her last moments. "A-Akemi...I'm really sorry..." Tears poured down both their faces. "One day, one time, somehow, you will save this girl and no matter what happens to me or how close we are in that time, remember that the Mami in this time will always be rooting for you." Mami held Homura's hand. Homura was sobbing now. "I will save her! I will! For her, for me, and for you!" Mami's eyelashes started to flutter and her grip on Homura's hand lessened. "Goodbye...Akemi..." And with those last words, the Mami Homura knew in this time was now a Witch.
